With a history stretching back to 1532 when it was first recorded as an coaching Inn, it is not surprising that the building is steeped in history. When you stay with us you will be adding your name to an impressive guest list of people who have stayed here before you, which includes Charles 1st and Oliver Cromwell, both men reputedly enjoying the hospitality of this establishment.
Recently much of the building has been refurbished, with great pains being taken to preserve the country house atmosphere, tradition and history, for which it has become famous.
Each of our rooms is individually decorated in an elegant country house style, giving each room its own special character. All the rooms are en-suite and equipped with everything necessary to make your stay with us a exceptional experience.
Around half of the rooms are situated in the main building, with the rest housed in the award winning Garden and Orchard annexes. There is also the four bedroom Orchard Cottage set in the grounds, perfect for Honeymoon couples or family gatherings. The oldest part of the building houses the King Charles 1st room, complete with its secret passage and splendid four-poster bed.
There are seven, sumptuously furnished lounges, where you can enjoy a relaxing drink or afternoon tea in front of a real log fire.
The Great Hall is the main dining hall for breakfast, dinner and, at weekends, lunch. In keeping with the historic tradition of the building there is a magnificent arched ceiling, oak panelled walls and even a minstrels gallery, which presents a superb and unparallelled atmosphere in which to enjoy exceptional and award winning cuisine.
The Lygon Room, a more intimate setting, but the food is just as good. Select from an impressive menu or give yourself a treat and try our 'menu gastronomique', a nine course meal developed by our Michelin Star chef, with selected fine wines to perfectly compliment your food.
Goblets. A warm and friendly Brasserie that offers a splendid menu in a little more informal setting, while maintaining the historic feel and cosy log fire.
We are licensed for Civil Marriage ceremonies, or would be happy to cater for your wedding reception, anniversary or private party in our banqueting hall.
