Built sometime in the 17th century our superb establishment has been the premier ale house in South Stokes and the surrounding area for almost four hundred years. As you might expect there have been many changes in this time and the building has been extended, refurbished and improved but many of the original features still remain; sitting in front of one of the original fireplaces, with a roaring log fire on a cold winters evening is unique experience.
We have just four well proportioned, uniquely designed and decorated rooms each having its own special character and charm. There is a twin room, a standard double, executive double with a jacuzzi and a family room with two beds and a Playstation (for the children). Whichever room you choose you will find a high level of facilities, with en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and complimentary toiletries; central heating; windows that you can open; colour TV with satellite channels and DVD player; smoke detectors and if you have to work a desk and lamp.
Our restaurant serves a choice of traditional English or International cuisine, all perfectly prepared by our talented chef and served in a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere.
We are family oriented and have both indoor and outdoor play areas. Cots, cribs and high chairs are available on request.
