The affluent market town of Altrincham is a great base for local beauty spots, a good round of golf or a visit to the close by neighbouring city of Manchester. An added bonus is the neighbouring White Cottage, built circa 1500. It's a charming timber framed residence that's been restored to its former glory with the aid of traditional materials and techniques. For 4,000 years this has been a settlement. Stone Age tools left behind here in many digs prove it. Museums house most of these artifacts but buildings stonework and ancient footpaths still exist for you to discover. This ancient market town is now mainly a residential area. With little doubt the most splendid of places to visit while staying here would be Dunham Massey Hall Park and Garden. A national trust property built in the 18th century it is within a 200 acre deer park. There is within this a 25 acre garden with splendidly old trees that you can almost hear talking to yu when they sway in the wind. The house itself has a fine collections of furniture, silverware and paintings for you to enjoy.
