Hotels Warrington England Cheap Warrington Hotels GuideWarrington is increasingly becoming a centre for the arts, shopping, family attractions and eating out... and it's always been popular for its history. It was here where ancient man's first crossing point over the River Mersey was discovered, and which later became a base for both the Romans and the armies of Oliver Cromwell. Warrington Museum and Galleries are fortunate enough to hold artefacts from all these eras, and more, in their collection. The town was also once the chief producer of beer in Britain and is still the country's ale capital. This fact is emphasised at many a local pub, where many a variation is on offer. Also in town, is the large indoor shopping centre of Golden Square. It features, contrary to its name, a large circular walkway, which encompasses the Old Market Place and boasts a huge range of modern high street stores. If you're looking for something to do afterwards, The Pyramid Arts Centre puts on a variety of exciting shows, including comedy, music, drama and dance; and you can have a meal before or after the performance at the excellent resident restaurant, the Olive Press. Another reason many choose Warrington for a stay is the ever-popular Gullivers World. An imaginatively themed children's adventure park, it's a magical world that brings Jonathan Swift's famous novel to life via water rides, rollercoasters, and even a dinosaur safari! Situated just off both the M6 and M62, Warrington is also served by two train stations (Central and Bank Quay) and is only 11 miles from Liverpool's John Lennon Airport. Located directly between Liverpool and Manchester Warringtonn is a haven from city life with parks and gardens all over. About 100 AD the Romans founded this town naming it Veratinum. The roman road that run through the city can still be felt if you put your mind to even if not seen anymore. In 1086 it was noted in the Domesday book saying the Saxons built the original church here. A stone bridge crossing the Mersey was built in 1495 by the Earl of Derby. This was of strategic importance during the civil war. Warrington Information |
