Aberystwyth Hotels Wales Cheap Hotels in Aberystwyth Guide

This premier west coast holiday destination is more than just a traditional seaside resort - it's the picturesque cultural capital of Mid Wales. Set on the beautiful Ceredigion Heritage Coast (in an area packed with beaches and served by warm Gulf Stream drift and weather), it's been popular with tourists since Victorian times. Aber, as it's known, is now home to a population of 11,000 (large for the region), but has lost none of its parochial charm. In addition, it's also the site of the National Screen and Sound Archive; the Aberystwyth University of Wales; and the National Library, which holds the first book printed in the Welsh language, dating from 1546. The surrounding green hills provide wonderful views of both the town and the vast Cardigan Bay; especially Constitution Hill, which can be reached via Britain's longest electric cliff railway. While there, you'll also be able to see Aber's ruined 13th-century castle on the hill of Pen Dinas, which features remains dating back to the Iron Age. Another exciting journey to take is to Devil's Bridge via steam train. A line originally set-up to transport men and goods to and from the lead mines, it runs parallel to the steepest river in the UK - the River Rheidol. Even after these 12 miles of stunning scenery, the destination, with its series of cascading waterfalls, does not disappoint any of its visitors.
