Located about 20 miles from Oxford on the River Cherwell, this is the heart of what is known informally as Banburyshire. My friend Bruce used to live here with his wife. Another friend Emma and her hubby were just outside in some lovely surrounding countryside, a little village with thatched cottages. Having visited the area a number of times I can say it is very relaxing and quiet for a nice break. The nature of this little town is one of quintessential English. In the local Banbury Museum, there are a selection of items worth a look from times past. These include many costumes and even a cannon from what used to be Banbury Castle. Also worth a quick look are Banbury Cross and the lovely St Mary's Church. A nice place to get a good flavour of the country and the local countryside without all the hussel and bustle of the big cities.
