The many additions and improvements that have been made to this superb old building have created a unique ambiance that enhances its original charm and character. It was originally built as a coaching inn in the 16th century and has witnessed many changes, both in and around it, during its five hundred year history. Countless thousands of people have stayed here before you, some of them famous, some of them infamous, and they have all help to enhance the atmosphere of this magnificent building.
In recent years the hotel has been modernised to ensure that we keep pace with the requirements of the modern traveller, but we have taken great care to retain the original feel of the building and many original features such as original oak beamed ceilings and wooden flooring still visible to remind us of its past.
Down stairs you will find two cosy bars, a comfortable and relaxing residents lounge and our renown Alexander's restaurant, where you can enjoy the culinary delights that are all lovingly created by our talented and imaginative chef.
Upstairs we have 37 well proportioned and tastefully decorated single, twin, double and triple rooms, each one is supremely comfortable and benefits from en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and complimentary toiletries; hairdryer; direct dial telephone; colour TV with satellite channels; central heating; desk and lamp; trouser press and hospitality tray with tea, coffee and biscuits.
