The beautiful city of Worcester stands proudly upon the banks of the Britain’s longest river, the Severn in western England. Home to both traditional and modern day attractions, this magnificent city has the power to take you back in time as well as serve you with all the luxuries of today. The city is dominated by the magnificent cathedral which has been a place of worship since the late seventh century. The building which stands today oldest parts date back to 1084 when the present building was constructed by Wulfstan who was the bishop of Worcester, and includes the Tomb of King John. Its most famous for its fine porcelain which has been made here since the mid-eighteenth century when Dr. John Wall and other businessmen set up the local factory. King George III granted the makers the Royal Warrant in 1789 and Royal Worcester was to become the world leaders in porcelain and bone china. The factory celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2001. One of the cities major attraction is indeed the visitors centre which houses a wealth of porcelain charting its colourful history as well as the Museum of Worcester Porcelain. Many flock to the city for its many vibrant shopping centre. The Crowngate is the largest with many leading stores, fashion and specialist shops. Like all proud cities this, the county town of Worcestershire, likes to show itself off that extra little bit in summer and therefore holds its own annual festival, which stretches an amazing 3 sunny August weeks. The festival itself comprises of over 300 mini events designed to give everyone who comes a taste of the city.
