The airport itself was constructed in 1942 by the US Army to serve as a bomber base, and subsequently played a major role in the Battle of Normandy. If you are looking for a place to stay close to the famous airport you are in the right place. Apparently although there is a very common misspelling of this placename we cant use it so lets hope after 500 years or so the English speaking public like you fine self has spelt it correctly. It is the MOST mis typed place name in the UK. I tried to look for information on the area and found quite a bit as it happens under the mis spelt name. Anyhow.
