Hotels Shrewsbury England Cheap Shrewsbury Hotels Guide

Lying in-between the Welsh borders and the bustling metropolis of England's Second City this picturesque Shropshire town has the best of both worlds, not to mention being a stunning destination in itself housing, among many other sights, 660 listed buildings in the town centre alone. It's a beautiful, intricate old market town with a system of narrow alleyways dating back from its original medieval street plan that criss-cross each other in a unique maze across the town centre. The town is famous for a number of reasons including: being the birthplace of Charles Darwin, its Roman vineyard, the International Cartoon Festival and the annual horticultural show held in August where over 3 million flowers are put on display. The haunting remains of Moreton Corbet Castle can be found just outside of town but you don't even need to venture outside of city limits to bare witness to beautiful old architecture as stunning black and white Tudor buildings line the streets with one in particular (Rowley's House) acting as a great venue for the town's museum and art gallery. Being a market town there's some great stores and stalls in the town including those more traditional outlets that echo the pastimes of the area and sell some delicious local produce including the regional wine. The town serves as a truly excellent base for exploration in the area as it's surrounded by some astounding attractions such as the beautiful red-brick Roman City ruins at Wroxter - the second largest Roman settlement in Britain which includes 2nd Century baths and the remains of a towering gateway. Nowadays there's good road access via the M54 and trains take just under an hour to Birmingham, you might not be in a hurry to leave however, due to the magical effect this charming age-old town tends to have on its visitors.
