Hotels Swindon England Cheap Swindon Hotels GuideSwindon first began as a small Saxon village and its the Saxons who first gave the village the name 'swine dun' which translates in to 'pig hill'. In the early days, Best known for its cattle markets and fairs but due to its location without a suitable river or roads Swindon didn't grow much as a town until the Great Western Railway reached here in the mid 19th century. This brought much prosperity to the town especially when Isambard Kingdom Brunel chose to locate his railway works there. Only a year later and an iron rolling mill was opened in the town and Swindon began to grow into a major engineering town. The Great Western Railway Museum describes Swindon's development as a railway centre and another attraction is Lydiard House. It was the ancestral home of the Viscounts Bollingbroke and is one of Wiltshire’s smallest stately homes. If you need to stay in the English city of Swindon this is the place to book your hotel room.
